Bruton Vintage Motorcycle Restoration & Service has been a life long dream and goal for me. From the age of nine my father instilled a high standard of work ethic within me as my summers consisted of weeding the cotton field and learning the family business for fifty cents an hour. At summer’s end I carefully counted the money I had worked so hard for, and felt an enormous amount of pride and a significant sense of appreciation learning the value of one’s work ethic.
I always had a deep passion for motorcycles despite the fact that my father never approved of them. After graduation, I finally had saved enough to buy a used Kawasaki Mach III after remembering the days in High School when the kid down the street would pass by my house doing an awesome wheelie every day for what seemed like months. That left a permanent imprint on me and the path of my career had been set in motion, literally.
My first motorcycle job was for Sonny Angel’s Motorcycles, in San Diego, CA. I began learning my craft while working on Norton, Moto Guzzi, and Ducati for six years. It was during that time that I purchased my first new motorcycle, a 1977 Ducati 900SS which I kept for 25 years.
After being a race mechanic with many competitive and successful race teams throughout the country I finally settled in Birmingham, AL after being offered a position at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, initially as a successful race mechanic for their vintage race team. The classic 60’s bike I worked on for a period of 4 years won every race entered except two during the entire time. This then led me to becoming a permanent employee for 17 years as a Restorer for Barber’s Museum. I proudly restored a total of 70 historic and often times priceless motorcycles for the museum.
After I experienced a series of life changing events, the opportunity opened for me to follow my life’s dream of opening my restoratation shop.
I opened Bruton Vintage Motorcycle Restoration & Service in September 2009, and look forward to providing and exceeding the goals of outstanding service. I am more than happy to talk with you about your motorcycle, just give me a call at 205-492-0451(Joe) or come by the shop.
